So about the cartoons:
In AIESEC you get taught the basics of cultural sensitivity. Meaning when you travel to another country you need to sensitive of its culture.
Does that mean that when you are in your country you only need to be sensitive to your own culture and not to anyone else’s?
Forget what we should do, what does actually happen?
Are we as Egyptians culturally sensitive and aware as not to offend any belief or culture outside of our own?
Don't we make fun of Indians, and their religious practices?
Don't we think it's gross for the French to eat frog's legs?
Don't we make fun of re-incarnation?
Don't we call Africans "3abeed"? (Arabic for slaves)
if we give ourselves the right to be insensitive to other cultures outside of our own, then we need to give others the same right.
If a Danish newspaper decides to be culturally insensitive to those living outside its boarders, then why are they wrong? Noting that Muslim Danes support the Freedom of speech they have, so they have not been offended.
Another case of Arab double standards i guess!
I am happy that the African Cup took the entire spotlight away from all the events of the world; at least Egyptians haven't done anything stupid about these cartoons.
But it also meant people forgot about those 1000 people dead in the bottom of the sea - no help is being sought for those victimized families or survivors.

hey ya loul, i think that Egyptians in general are more culturally sensitive with constraints, but i mean compared to some other countries, specially within the region.
About the cartoons' issue, i think everybody's free to think and visualize other cultures as he/she wants, i mean when you say that we make fun of these and those, but this don't mean that we start offending them in our media!!
Another point is that, somebody has told me that it's stated in the european constitution that offending seimitism is a crime to be jailed for.....so if somebody's hiding underneath freedom's umbrella, don't discriminate between different religions, and for those who claim that the Danes make caricatures about PM and the queen, please don't compare a person who's a symbol for a country or religion to another who get changed every few years.

First of all, where did you hear so much about it? Hopefully not amongst your AISEC friends. I know a couple of AISEC people and we are not on good terms with me. Whatever they tell you about me is all lies, damn lies- unless it's good stuff. Then it's all true!
Secondly: Your roommate is right. I did live in the US for a while: went there for college and I did engage in that old wonderful living in the boonies tradition of cow-tipping.
Finally: I am 24 years old. Why is my age an issue again?

i read about you in the croc, in Freedom for Egyptians blog, and in a few online newspapers referring to egyptian bloggers, can't remember the names.
I hope your disagreements with AIESECers does not give you a bad impression, it's a truly remarkable organisation.
