kefaya

I came across this website called www.kefaya.com this is the campaign against having Mubarak be president for another 6-year term and also against having his son as his successor.
Interesting, but rather depressing.
There are several gloomy ways of looking at this "change" , pessimism is the norm while optimism seems minimal.
I have finally gotten a hold of the Egyptian consitution, which was a big surprize for me.
It was really hard to find i must say, has many stupid stuff in there, but it had great news :)
The conditions for being president are
1) Egyptian
2) from Egyptian Parents
3) Above 40 years of age
4) has all civil and political rights

So the president can be christian, and can be a WOMAN!!
In your face kenny :P

I told that fact to 3 of my friends from Uni, one of them - a muslim - comented that she does not want a women president. ( that friend is a female ).

Later on she commented how she would never have a christian president - she did not say that infront of my other 2 friends out of respect for them as they were christians.

If this is how educated people who will soon have a University Degree think like, i wonder what those other 51% illiterate Egyptians think!

There has yet to be a woman or African American president in the U.S. I'm hoping there will be a woman elected president by 2012, maybe if Oprah ran...everyone loves Oprah. I doubt there will ever be a Muslim president elected in the U.S.

Think of it this way. You have 20 years to change people's minds about having a woman president.

I would fully support your presidency... mostly because I think I might benefit from it somehow...

Greetings, the good link for Kifaya. You actually do not need a voting card to have your say in a referundum. The card is an obstacle now, since the government can use the databases and new IDs to prevent one citizen from voting twice.

And to stray a little off-point, if you become president you will allow people to have children according to their economic status. Hmmm. Will it work in a democracy?

dude!! i SAID i cannot force anyone to have a certain number of kids, i can only develop education and devlop the people till they see it themselves.
i have no right to tell people how many kids they should have, and i never said i did.
Why does noone get that?!!

hi & greetings .. I am an egyptian who has been living in the UK for over 15 years now ( but i'm not that old either!) . I think this "kefaya" movement is a wonderful example of how people are testing out their newly discovered power . we have to be careful though , this can also cause alot of damage but I guess its an inevitable price to pay for a place back on the face of the democratic planet. WELL DONE EGYPT!!

i am a christian egyptian male 27 years old , i do not blame your friend that she doesn't want a female or a christian male to be the president , no matter how far the american democracy goes yet there is no black african american will win the elections , or niether a woman ( coz there is a lot of good old boys there )knowing that the USA have a way higher education level than egypt for a man at both educational and political aspects , so i do not expect much from a typical egyptian who still won't belive in a christian or a woman would role him - and i use role - coz he is not educated enought to know that he makes the diffrence and he is the one who makes the decisions - he just wants to be roled by some one , so kefaya basically needs some time till we have the kind of people who will be able to participate at an election , respect thier country , improves thier income by takeing a better care of the little that they have got , instead of destroying what the only got , on the other hand and that is the bright side that we can now hear in egypt what so called an opposit direction , this is a good start ,

I am an Egyptian who has been living in the US for 23 years and I may be considered old (twice your age).
I applaud Kefaya for what they are doing. I talked to my mom, who is visiting me in the US about Kefaya. She told me that if not Mubarak, who else can lead the country. I told her that this is exactly the problem, the situation is so bad that people can't think of anyone else who is good enough to rule the country. I think that the Genie is half way out now and very soon, there will be no returning back to the bottle.
